I had shared with my friend a nephew’s Band. (UHQ…Urban Hillbilly Quartet, a rockabilly genre, which I often return to.) When we met up again, he quoted a line from one of their songs:
“When I opened my mind, my brain fell out.”
We both laughed.
Let’s assume we all know the difference between our brains and our minds. There are similarities though as science has uncovered that our neural pathways adjust to traumas both physically and emotionally. But I’m gonna try to stay in the state of mind and how it changes.
You might be thinking ‘by what authority does Jerry think he can give us a piece of his mind?’
Fair enough. This piece has already wiggled its way into your mind, has it not? Mind blown. This is heady already.
But, without realizing it, our minds change all the time, mostly without a thought (That don’t make no sense).
The point I’m skirting around is Changing my mind through renewing my mind.
Romans 12:1,2 Tucked in there is “Be transformed by the renewal of your mind.”
It is purposeful changing. A renewal to help me figure out what God wants me to do. To get at the mindfulness of the good and acceptable and perfect ways of God.
I’m not waiting for the world to change, I’m changing my mind.
I’m gonna pick up my brain now.
Thought: Merely having an open mind is nothing. The Object of opening the mind, as of opening the mouth, is to shut it again on something solid.
G.K. Chesterton
