Hey, I found that โ€œHopeโ€ chapter, because I found my beat up copy of Mere Christianity while cleaning my disaster of an office.

โ€œIf I find in myself a desire which no experience in this world can satisfy, the most probable explanation is that I was made for another world.”

C.ย S. Lewis, Mere Christianity on Hope.

Desire, emotions, and feeling things have been suspect of late. I doubt my feelings and pin my desires behind my back as it were, wondering if they will betray me. I put hope in that category too. Hope isnโ€™t an emotion, but it can keep emotions somewhat awake, donโ€™t you think?

This world, in some respects, is a mirageโ€ฆemotions too, are like steam rising off the pavement after a brief hot summer day. Our culture seems to be mood dependent. Well, if I really soak myself in the cultural abyss, (oh, so dramatic!) itโ€™s more like the Moody Blues.

I guess thatโ€™s when faith, HOPE, and love enter, and move us beyond mood dependency.

Times up. Thoughts?

A brief rain shower on a hot summer day? I can almost smell it! Know why out of faith, hope and Love, the greatest is love? Can’t wait to hear your answer!

    As Beth recently shared:

“The Letter to the Hebrews in the New Testament says, ‘Faith is the substance of things hoped for.’ Itโ€™s almost tangible; thatโ€™s what substance means. We remember the future in hope. And that, my friends, is what HIRAETH (my caps) is about: itโ€™s a longing unsullied by the vagaries of time or by the chasms of distance. Itโ€™s an affliction of the heart that draws us inevitably toward a future we see but cannot touch, a future full of peace and compassion. Itโ€™s the allure of the divine, beckoning us toward fulfillment.” – Fr. Gabriel of St. Anthony of the Desert (a Christian Mission in New Mexico)

Hope: an intertwining of upbringing, worldview, trust, wrapped in a film of selfwareness that is stamped with faith. Elusive and yet real.

Thanks for your time and thoughts.
